GWPI at Spelman College

2022-2023 Spelman Fellows

In 2021, YWCA of Greater Atlanta partnered with the Social Justice Program at Spelman College to train our inaugural class of GWPI Fellows at Spelman College. Fellows in the Spelman GWPI cohort apply an intersectional racial and social justice lens to research, develop, and advocate for state policy to improve the lives of women and girls in Georgia.

Benefits of the GWPI Experience

  • Learn the fundamentals of the Georgia General Assembly, the policymaking process, and principles of effective advocacy

  • Hear from legislators, public policy professionals, and subject matter experts

  • Develop policy proposals that address real-world issues, work with coalitions, and plan and execute advocacy strategy

  • Connect with more than 190 GWPI alumnae

  • Develop the skills needed to be a formidable lifelong advocate

Requirements and Timeline

  • Minimum GPA Requirement: 3.2

  • Required Application Materials: completed application, completed recommender's form, current resume, unofficial transcript

  • Approximate Length: one academic year

  • Approximate Time Commitment: 40 hours per semester

  • Applications Open: February 15, 2024

  • Application Due Date: April 1st, 2024

  • Decision Notification Date: April 15, 2024

  • Fellowship Acceptance Deadline: April 30, 2024

  • Mandatory Virtual Fellowship Orientation: June 9, 2024
