ENGAGE IN STATE POLICY

Did you know that many of the most important policy decisions that impact women’s day-to-day lives are made at the state level?

Involving women in the state policymaking process is critical to ensuring there is strong public policy in place that can improve the lives of women and girls throughout Georgia. When women are not at the table when public policy decisions are made, policies are created that do not reflect the realities of women’s lives.

Research shows that a record number of women are seeking new ways to get engaged in policy and advocacy in Georgia, but it also shows that women still face unique barriers to leading in the public policy arena. These barriers can be gender and/or racial discrimination, additional caregiving responsibilities, lack of comfort with the policy process, a hostile climate for women, or a lack of female role models.

The YWCA helps women succeed in civic engagement by empowering women to become involved in the public policymaking process and building the pipeline of women running for office.
