EMPOWERING WOMEN TO CREATE MEANINGFUL POLICY CHANGE IN GEORGIA

The Georgia Women’s Policy Institute (GWPI) is the YWCA of Greater Atlanta’s Signature leadership, advocacy, and civic engagement training program, where women from diverse backgrounds learn how to develop and support state-level policy proposals.

State-level policy has a direct impact on the day-to-day lives of women and girls in Georgia.

Women need to be at the table when state-level policy decisions are being made, both by serving as advocates and as elected officials.

After the November 2022 election, the percentage of Georgia legislators who are women increased to more than 34%!

Involving women in the state policymaking process is critical to ensuring there is strong public policy in place that can improve the status of women and girls throughout Georgia. When women are not at the table when public policy decisions are made, policies are created that do not reflect the realities of women’s lives.
